world building - main/nolan verse.
Name: Richard John Grayson
Age: 22
Notable Aliases: Robin, Nightwing, Freddy Lloyd, Robbie Malone
Universe: Nolanverse
Short Timeline:
Age 8: Parents are murdered. Is taken in by Bruce Wayne.
Age 10: Officially adopted by Bruce.
Age 13: Officially becomes Batman’s partner, Robin. This was on a restrictive basis and his actions were strictly monitored as much as possible.
Age 14: Formed the Teen Titans with Speedy (Roy Harper), Kid Flash (Wally West), Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), and Aqualad (Garth Curry). The team disbanded after Barry Allen died and Dick was fired as Robin.
Age 18: Starts college at Hudson University, majoring in Criminal Justice, considering Pre-Law.
Age 19: During a hostage situation, Dick (not Robin) is shot and nearly killed by the Joker. After recovering, Bruce benched Robin permanently for Dick’s safety. He went back to school, but after a few weeks dropped out and began travelling the world, studying martial arts in Europe and Asia.
Age 21: Returns to Gotham City, adopts the codename Nightwing, moves to Blüdhaven.
He is currently 22, and is employed as a police detective with the Blüdhaven P.D.
Some Important/Fun Stuff:
+ In this verse, Dick is a year older then Barbara, who is the daughter referenced to and finally seen at the end of The Dark Knight. He’s had a crush on her since they first met and figured out she was Batgirl before Bruce did.
+ Although Dick never wore the short pants (his Robin uniform is more similar to Tim Drake’s black and red uniform) or the Disco suit (he’s only had one Nightwing costume), his wardrobe does occasionally lean towards things that others would consider a little… unusual. Or just crimes against fashion in general.
+ Has a tendency to refer to Bruce as ‘boss’ while on the job or in private, a habit he picked up when training to be Robin that hasn’t really gone away. He also isn’t afraid to refer to him as his dad to other people and definitely won’t correct them if they refer to him as Bruce Wayne’s son, but only directly calls Bruce ‘Dad’ if he’s particularly upset, excited or tired. Otherwise it’s just Bruce.
+ At the moment, the Batfamily consists of Bruce, Dick, Babs (Batgirl) and Jason (Robin), plus Alfred and sort of Lucius Fox. They don’t know Dr. Thompkins, but are relatively close with Clark, Diana, and various other big name members of the hero community. Dick is also good friends with Barbara’s older brother Jim, and still keeps in touch with the Titans even if they aren’t an official team anymore.
+ Dick has not been back to the circus since his parent’s murders particularly often, and has very mixed feelings about going back for visits, basically exclusively because he wants to both remember his parents and move on, not wonder what life would have been like if they were still alive. He also did not have an elephant bff.
+ When it comes to hot beverages, he pretty much exclusively drinks hot chocolate over coffee or tea.
+ His favorite television program is America’s Most Wanted (or really, anything with a similar format), but has been told he probably shouldn’t be allowed to watch it because he phones in tips and often solves the cases just from watching the episode.
