Is anyone still around who can say if there's an actual set date for when the snow stops falling on deck? I remember when it ended last year, but if it's something actually consistent - not that I'm really expecting it to be, given how this place works - I figured it might be good to know.

Figure we might as well take advantage of it while it's still around, right?

[Dick was sort of in the middle of taking a drink when she came in and may or may not have almost just choked on the water because omg not only did she show up (which, logically, why wouldn't she, but he was being kind of nervous about this for some reason, so), but she was actually going to be coming over here and fffff this is embarrassing brb coughing for a little while.

But okay she is sitting down and it is time to pull it together, Grayson.]

Hi! Um, [Cough cough oh god why happening. :c] how are you doing?

[She just kind of smiles and averts her gaze as he coughs, placing her closed notebook down to her left, she doesn't want to embarrass him, after all. Once he seems recovered, she looks at him again.]

I'm good! Great, even. Today's just so.. I dunno, it kind of feels special. Do you know what I mean? [Buffy starts working on her salad, stabbing small pieces of lettuce with her fork, munching happily and politely. Bird-like, even.]

Um, I guess. [How do make normal conversation. It's like every other time he's ever spoken to a girl he's liked - and let's be real, he was doing the I kind of like you thing with Babs for years and he was way more suave than he's being now - hasn't mattered and he's just tripping over things to say left and right.]

... What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

[She's oblivious. So focused on her own ~feelings~ right now she doesn't notice how off and awkward he's being. Buffy half-shrugs, focusing on her salad. She seems perfectly at ease, conversation is easy.]

Iunno, I figured I'd make some Valentines tonight. [Smirks at herself.] Never thought I'd be making those again. Usually not a big v-day celebrater, y'know?

[SUDDENLY HAS AN IDEA, STOPS EATING.] Hey, you've been to the bridge and all, right? Did you ever see him?

[Dick was about to nod and smile and agree that it wasn't really his thing either - generally holidays came second to that whole vigilante thing, no dates, only justice etc. - but her question distracted him from fumbling around his response to that.]

See who? The Admiral?

[She sits up a little straighter.] Yeah. Did you?

No, he was gone when we got there. And when the other group found him and he decided to come back, he just teleported us off the bridge and back to our rooms. How come?

Oh. N-No reason. [Pouty-frown, slight slump. Then, SHRUG.] Oh well. I kinda like how I picture him in my head anyway. And I'm pretty sure he could probably take like any form. Assuming he has any form at all..

What makes you ask?

Um. [....Buffy fidgets a little.] Okay, fine. [Buffy glances around them, pushing her food tray aside and leaning in closer to Dick, and says in a hushed voice:] Can you keep a secret?

[Dick's throat inevitably closes up when she leans in closer and it's a second or too before he copies the gesture, trying really hard to just focus on the conversation and not think about HOLY CRAP WE'RE KIND OF UP IN EACH OTHER'S PERSONAL SPACE.] Y-Yeah, of course. What is it?

[One more case of shifty-eyes, then she focuses back on him, the tops of her cheeks turning pink. They're leaning into each other's space a little and now Buffy is actually biting her lip.

Buffy glances down at the table before she speaks, still quiet. But excited.] I think.. No, I know. I.. I know it probably sounds a little on the crazy side. But since when are these kinds of things rational, right? You don't always pick who you..

[She looks up.. And locks eyes with Dick only to say..] The Valentines I'm making? I'm making them for him. [Light nervous smile.]

And I know, I know it sounds stupid. I mean, I don't even know if he's a him, but.. It feels right, you know?

[Well that... Feels utterly soul crushing for some reason. Like, seriously, someone might need to scrape him off the floor because he is just a puddle of :CCCC on the inside as soon as she finishes saying that, and it takes a minute to come up with an answer to that.

[Buffy is still oblivious, Dick. :|]

God, is this totally weird? I'm sorry. [She moves back and sits normally.] It's a little unconventional, I get that. But it's- I think he feels the same way. And it's not like I'm really known for the conventional relationships myself. It's not exactly possible to have any kind of normal with my life, and they all end up dead or gone, sometimes both... [.....BACK ON TOPIC NOW.

Buffy reaches out to take one of his hands if he lets her.] Don't be freaked.

[Once again there's the OH MY GOD RUN reaction versus the OH MY GOD SHE'S TOUCHING ME, which means he ends up just sitting stock still and therefore, letting her take his hand without jerking away in panic or doing much of anything about it, really.]

I'm not freaked. I'm not, I just- I mean, it's the Admiral.

[She winces a little.] I know.

It's a little out there, I know. More than a little out there. I've been hating him for so long, but I think maybe I was just.. Fighting my feelings. Do you know what I mean?

I guess. [NOPE NOT REALLY, BUFFY. :C] But I mean, you've basically never met him!

[Buffy withdraws her hand and starts poking at her salad again with her fork, but isn't eating, with a POUT. HAVE THE BUFFY POUT, DICK.]

I- We don't have to talk about this.

What's new with you?

[Dick tried - and probably failed - to not look disappointed when she pulled her hand away, and shrugged.]

Nothing, I guess.

Look, I'm sorry, I just - it's just surprising. If it makes you happy, that's what's important.
