[Dick switches on the video feed to show he's sitting on a couch in his apartment, which for anyone who's ever been over to visit before probably looks a lot cleaner/well organized than it usually is. Tim is a lot neater than Dick and might have tidied up his mess for him while they were swapped. >>]

Sorry for anyone that was confused about the whole "swapping places with Tim but not exactly" thing. I'm pretty sure we're both back to normal now. [And almost like he's just checking to make sure things are in the right place, he rubs a hand briefly over his face and brushes some hair back from his forehead, smiling sheepishly.] I probably shouldn't think too hard about where we go when we're not here, should I?

Anyway, what languages do you all speak? I know the Barge seems like it translates everything to English - or it does for me, I guess perception could be different for someone who's used to something else - so there isn't a lot of reason for it, necessarily, but I was wondering if anyone would be interested in brushing up on their French with me. Or anything, really, I'm pretty fluent in a couple different ones and I'd be interested in learning more. [Basically, Dick is bored and understimulated, and this will help him feel productive. :c]

Just to get this out there, if you talked to the other me, I don't remember any of it, but I kind of remember you two talking to Tim. So if anything important was said, you might need to pass it along again. [He's half trolling half serious. :c]

[It was weird, to come back and not really remember most of what had happened over the last weekend. His apartment was clean, a note was taped to the fridge making fun of him for being a slob and there was a Robin costume stashed in his closet, which really just confirmed what he already knew, and there was maybe a tiny part of him that was almost disappointed he'd missed seeing Tim as he'd been years ago.

But almost immediately, he felt guilty for thinking that at all, because as much as he missed Tim being a kid - cautious but still optimistic, and generally just a little dork - Tim had grown up. And even if it was weird that he'd changed, he still loved him. That hadn't changed, and really? Dick was proud of him and everything he'd accomplished, and he'd gotten over the ache that things were different. Tim was always going to be his kid brother. No amount of time or growing up was going to change that, and he loved Tim for who he was, not just for who he had been.

After mulling things over for a while over a bowl of cereal, Dick got up and left his room, heading down the hall to knock on Tim's door.]

[Dick hasn't felt this stir crazy in months. Between getting pretty knocked out of commission for a while by a snake bite and bronchitis and then just general having done just about everything there was to do on the Barge at this point, he was almost missing feeling like he was running himself into the ground between being a cop and being a vigilante, and very, very occasionally having some time to himself. Things were easier when he wasn't basically forced to sit still and wait for things to happen.

So, for lack of anything better to do, really, he headed up on deck and decided the greenhouses were as good a place as any for a change in scenery, considering he didn't really spend much time there at all, really. He wasn't really expecting anyone to be there, and it didn't look like there was, initially, so he just opened and closed the door behind him, kind of just planning on attempting to meditate or something. Nothing wrong with some alone time, right?]

[She huffs out a breath, disturbing a few locks of hair.]

It's - cumulative. Like, I don't know how well you remember him talking to 'Tim', but...it's not an act, okay? The whole 'don't worry, ma'am, I'll save you!' bit? That's not a persona he drops when the mask comes off. He's like that all the time.

Seriously? I mean, believe me, I get it, it's hard to switch off the impulse to save everyone, but anyone who's got a secret identity I know at least tones it down a lot once the mask comes off. [How does he keep a secret identity, hot damn.]

Do you think it would help with just some time and distance or something? I mean, enough that you call on Christmas or something but otherwise kind of give each other space? Or is that kind of not a thing in the Go household?

In my experience it was a little bit 'all or nothing'. [She shrugs.] I'm not going home when I'm done here, so contact time is kind of irrelevant now. I'm not going to waste my energy on what I might have done better back then.

Yeah. [Still. That's kind of depressing, Shego. :c] You don't miss anything about it?

About working with my brothers? [She makes a dismissive noise and takes a sip of her drink.] Not even remotely.

I meant home.

Well, let's see. I've got the family I haven't spoken to in years, the social circle which never existed, the idiot boss who nearly got me killed multiple times, and the archfoe who's probably forgotten I ever existed by now. The only thing I'm even a little nostalgic for is my retirement fund.

It's too bad no one's come up with some way of just leapfrogging from universe to universe without the Barge as a hub. I mean, I definitely get where that has potential to go horrifically awry, but just because you're planning on retiring to Gotham doesn't mean everyone is, and what if somewhere down the line you decided you wanted to pop home for a weekend or something?

[Darkly:] I won't. [She sighs and leans back a little, drumming her fingertips against her glass.] I dunno. If anyone wants it that bad they can make a deal with the Admiral for some universe-leapfrogging gizmo.

Assuming anyone wants to stick around for that long after finishing whatever deal they came here for in the first place. [Dick takes a drink before changing the subject a little, maybe grinning a little bit.]

So, safe to say I shouldn't be proposing you, me, Tim, Cass and Steph run around Gotham punching out bad guys in themed costumes when we're doing here?

Safe to say. [She pauses a moment.] She's one of yours, huh. I kinda figured from the way you three dogpiled on her the second she showed up.

Yeah. She's a good kid. It's been nice to see her again, it's been a long time. [Even though he's like 99% sure that he did something awful to her too in the future because that's just the kind of guy BatDick is apparently, so. :\]

It's been a long time for everybody for you, though, right? You've been here, what, two years now? [Hard to shake the feeling that everyone who's been on the Barge less time than her is a newbie.]

[Lies, he's died, been a girl and been here for over a year, he's an old hand at this point.] A year and four months. It feels like forever, though. And I was away from Gotham for a year before I came here, so. It's been a while.

[She nods.] Any plans to take a visit home any time soon?

Probably not. I'm less scared of not being able to come back than I was like, a year ago? But I still don't really want to risk being gone longer than I intended. [And being Batman and all that. :v]

[There's a pause for consideration while she sips at her drink. She doesn't really know the situation re. why Dick isn't exactly anxious to go back and be Batman and such.]

But you're gonna be done here eventually, right?

Yeah, at some point. I don't think anyone should stay here forever. [What with it being the world's most toxic environment and everything. :|]

No. But maybe in fifty years I'll visit to see how Prefect's getting on anyway.

He's seriously planning on staying here forever?

I think it's gonna be a loooong while before effective immortality on a ship with a constantly changing roster of crazy people starts to look less attractive than going home, for him.

And tagging along home with someone else just doesn't have the same appeal of being here?

From what I know about the BFFs he's established here, his choices are Gotham or Sanitarium Island. Sooo....no, possibly not. [Dryly:] Not to rag on Gotham or anything, but the appeal is less immediate if you're not a superhero.

I'm not a superhero. [He doesn't have powers, gawd Shego. Also he's teasing.] Yeah, I can see where neither's really appealing to most rational human beings.
