What kind of training you got in mind?

I've got all the NYPD unarmed combat training I had time to show up for, and I've been kickboxing since high school. But it doesn't hurt to see what else is out there, right? Not that I ever plan on leaving my weapon at home but the more I can do before it becomes the only option, the better.

[Also she has been made aware - or at least, enabled to remember - that you are/were Robin. Were? You're a little old for the booty shorts there.]

So do you know anyone who can help me out with that?

I think I could probably lend a hand. Not to brag, but unarmed combat's kind of a skill of mine.

[Sara's workout gear today is a threadbare White Stripes T-shirt and tired-looking black sweatpants because she has never given less of a shit about how she looks than when she's at the gym. Since her lunch was a cup of coffee, she shows up before Dick and hops on the treadmill to warm up a little.]

[And Dick shows up a while later in a white t-shirt and dark shorts - normal shorts, not short pants, apparently the distinction needs to be made when it comes to Robin, the Boy Fashion Disaster, who does know how to dress himself properly these days - looking around for Sara as soon as he enters the gym, smiling when he spots her on the treadmill.]

[She smiles back and switches off the machine, slowing to a halt and stepping away.] Hey.

[Maybe she should be embarrassed about asking a guy so much younger for help, but she isn't - partly because she has a vague idea of how long those 20something years have been, partly because it'd be damn near impossible to peg her at 32, and partly because she needs the help and doesn't care where it comes from. She figures the more she can do without 'backup', the less 'backup' she'll need. The Witchblade - which is privy to every thought in her head - is muttering disconsolately about this at the back of her head but it's not actively complaining.]

So how do you want to play this?

[Dick doesn't find it particularly strange at all, considering he's been used to most people treating him like a capable adult since he was about twelve, so if there's any reason to be embarrassed, he doesn't comment on it and just shrugs a little.]

Whatever works for you. Got anything in particular you want to brush up on?

Not so much 'brush up' as 'branch out'. I'm hoping to get into techniques more sophisticated than 'keep hitting until the other guy gives up'.

[This has generally worked for her in the sort of fights she used to get into, but...well, she's not getting into those sorts of fights any more.]

I mean, there's not much about suspect restraint I learnt at the Academy that'll really stick when the other guy has eight inches and one hundred pounds on you.

[Also claws, tentacles, magic powers etc.]

Speaking from experience, nope, no there isn't. But the solution to that kind of stuff is really just science, sometimes. Want to start by practicing some throws?

[Learning how to rip someone else off balance and into the ground kind of makes your lack of height not an issue in terms of a momentary HOLY CRAP DID THAT JUST HAPPEN factor.]

[Sara nods, crossing over to the sparring mats.]

Sure.

[She's aware of a voice in the back of her head laughing at her but right now she's choosing to ignore it.]

[Dick follows her and stands a couple feet away from her.]

Have you ever done a hip throw before?

[Cautious smirk.] Not...consciously.

[Sara's unarmed combat style these days is less about anything she's learnt in classes or at the Academy, more a general recognition that some things just work. She loosens her posture.]

Go ahead and demonstrate if you want.
