He...didn't. Best I can remember, Tim Drake inherited it from a friend after she left, and Dick got it from him.

...This place takes its toll on everybody, and Dick's been here a long time. I'd say it's been tough on him at times. But I'd also say things have been looking up since his Inmate graduated, so at the moment? Yeah, he's okay.
