[Costigan got that Dick was trying to joke around, but he wasn't in much of an amused mood at the moment and so he didn't reply to the remark in one way or another. It didn't occur to him that there might be things he didn't know about the man he was inhabiting or why it should bother him for Dick to find out before him, so he gave a simple nod when his warden mentioned letting him know.
