I know it's kind of ridiculous to try to look for a point to any of this? But I still think it if we were going to be able to be contacted by people not on the Barge, it would have been more handy to let us pick who we could contact. And when to contact them in the timeline.

[Deep breath.] Bruce... Bruce told Crane, or Crane found out because Bruce attacked him or something, I don't even know why, really, and he's apparently angry with me because in the future - which hasn't even happened for me yet - when we all think he's dead, I take over as Batman so the city's still got someone looking out for it, because clearly that means I don't give a rat's ass about him.

Wait-- slow down, Dick. What did Crane find out? [Guess who ignores Crane?] And what does Batman have to do with Bruce?

... Bruce is Batman, Bill. What did you think I meant when I said he knew I was going to do it with or without him, so he trained me in hopes I wouldn't get myself killed? [There's actually a bit of amicable humor in there instead of his previous 'everything is horrible' tone.]

I know you're not really the type, but the best thing you can do in a situation like that is to tell him to mind his own goddamn business or tell him to fuck off. If you haven't even been there yet, he can't fuckin' hold it against you. Hell, it might be a different you. No one here knows how this shit works.

I really hope you're right. I mean, it's been months and I still can't wrap my mind around any of it, honestly. I don't want to be Batman.

... You know, the funny thing is? I'm usually pretty good at doing that. Like, back home whenever he'd be trying to get into my business with Bludhaven or the Titans, I'd tell him to fuck off and sometimes he would and sometimes he wouldn't, but usually he'd get the point. And, I don't know, ever since he showed up here he just seemed... different, I guess. Like dying had made him realize what's actually important. I mean, one of the first things he did was give Tim and I a hug, and I can count on one hand the number of times he's initiated something like that after I turned like, ten. But now he's right back to being the same old selfish asshole who doesn't realize or care that his actions effect the other people in his life too.

Nothing wrong with hoping. You just have to be prepared for the disappointment that might follow.

Crane's an asshole, sure, but isn't he from your world? I can't say I blame Bruce for being worried. I worked with the mafia and Sylar's a fuckin' serial killer.

The Crane here is different from the one back home. He's basically from an alternate reality.

But see, that's kind of my point. I told you who I am and what I do because I trust you, and I assume that's why Tim told Sylar. We don't just hand this stuff out to people. Knowing this information can get people killed back where we're from, or at least put them in serious danger, and I just don't get why he'd be that fast to tell someone about it. I mean, obviously the Barge is a really different environment? But if he wanted to be Batman on the Barge, why bother introducing himself as Bruce Wayne to people? And why pick now to reveal himself to everyone?

And frankly, a "oh, just so you know, I'm beating up Crane and telling him I'm Batman, which then totally blows your cover, and probably Tim's too" would have been nice.

I don't know, guy. Sometimes you have to either take orders or disown the establishment.

I don't always take orders from him. I wasn't kidding when I said I've been pretty much making my own judgment calls since I was seventeen. I mean, sure, sometimes he'll tell me to do something, but it's up to me whether or not I actually go through with it, and if I do, it's because I agree with him that it's the right thing.

Then why does it matter now?

It doesn't, really. He didn't give me any orders. I told him I didn't get why he told Crane and said I couldn't believe not even dying can get him to realize how much he means to us, and he threw it back in my face by saying apparently he didn't mean enough, because now I'm Batman. Even though I'm not, I still don't want to be, and he knows that. Or, he should.

Tell him again.

I might, once I'm not ready to just punch him in the face.
