I know everyone's already said their pieces about port, but you know? Ones like that really aren't so bad. Aside from the possibility of falling overboard and getting assimilated into the world we're visiting, it's basically just like going to a city you've never been to before. There are places you should avoid, and places that are perfectly safe.

I know we all joke a lot about Gotham being a terrible place to live because it's America's murder capital and Bludhaven wasn't much better, but there are good parts to it too. There are these Cuban meat sandwiches at a place called Ibano's, there's near perfect acoustics at Jonus Theater, I could probably go on forever, and while I'm not really going to recommend it as a vacation spot to anyone soon - because again, murder capital of America - as long as you know what you're doing and are careful about what parts you wander into, you'll probably be okay.

How's everyone handling our week of relative quiet? Anyone up for doing something? Actually having something to do in port kind of spoiled me for a few days.

I actually did. I stayed in during the port because of it.

[You totally forgot, didn't you.]

[And true to his word, Dick has scampered off to the cave and walks over to Bruce with his present not subtly hidden behind his back.] Whatcha working on?

[ HI MASS OF EQUATIONS ON THE SCREEN. He's a little distracted, but he knows you're hiding something, so he turns around. ]

A multiuniversal theory of convergence. Basically how other worlds can have fictional accounts of us.

What are you holding?

[There's no point to trying to pretend he doesn't, so he's handing over the present without further beating around the bush. SPOILER ALERT: It's a book about the different plants and animals species represented on OS19. It's a big book. :|]

[ Loooooooong pause while he stares at Dick a little. Blinks. Stares at him a little more. You've rendered Batman entirely speechless, my dear. ]

... Thank you. [ And he takes it- puts it down- and grasps Dick's arm a little, as if lost.

Hug him :| ]

[An amused, but affectionate smile stretches across his face at Bruce's reaction.]

You're welcome.

[And a hug he is happy to give, because clearly you need one, even if you don't really know it.]

[ Awwwww Dickie. And Bruce hugs him for a moment, genuinely pleased and surprised about the present- and okay, okay, he did forget.

Then he pulls away for a moment... and smirks, reaching out to ruffle your hand with a vengeance. ]

[Yaaaaay hugs, Dick will never not love them. He squeezes gently for a moment before pulling back and grins widely at the hair ruffle, chuckling and playfully batting his hand away.]

Hey!

[ Awwww you're the cutest firstborn in the WORLD. ]

Stop resisting.

[He tries. c:]

Fiiiine.

[ And he relents, leaning back a bit. ]

How was the port?

It was actually a lot of fun. I had a real mystery to solve, rescued some people, did some bonding with the inmate [In the form of beating the crap out of people who were trying to kill, maim or enslave him BUT YOU KNOW HOW IT IS.] and even got some shopping thrown in at the end. It was a pretty amazing place.

What about the technology? Seen anything you recognized?

Unless you mean "recognized from Star Wars", not really. It was pretty high end, definitely more advanced than most stuff we've got bad home. Assuming they're from a similar timeline to us, I'd say they beat us by at least a hundred years, probably more.
