David, Slick, and Hoffman kidnapped and tortured Bourne using David's ability. When Bourne got free, he turned David into a rat and kept him like that. Originally he was going to do a week, but I talked him down to a few days. I didn't realize how fucked up it was until after the fact, when David told me about his history and what that rat meant to him, but by then it was too late.

The kid needs to get reassigned, but that's the Admiral's choice, guy. Punishing Bourne now will only make David lose more respect for him and make the kid think he was right all along-- I haven't even told him how fucked up I think what Bourne did is, because it won't do him any good.

What Bourne said about torturing him.. Bourne never did anything to him. He kept the kid up on food and water and everything. [A beat.] The warden doesn't think like you. That doesn't make him bad at his job. He just doesn't think the same. To him, the punishment fit the crime. It was fucked up, but it wasn't torture.

If you can't get them reassigned, then ask Tim not to do anything, guy. David's barely fuckin' listening to anyone right now-- and I'm worried I might be the only one, outside of Hoffman, he actually really trusts and respects right now. If Tim's added to that list? It's good. But what Tim did here.. that's fucked up too. He acted without knowing what's going on or how David thinks.

I'm not tryin' to justify Bourne here. You can fuckin' think what you want about the guy. But if you'ah really tryin' to help David? Tell Tim he fucked up.

So, if I recreated specific circumstances - which would be traumatic for you, or whatever other inmate I was assigned - and kept it up as a source of punishment, you seriously don't think it's torture? You care about David. Giving him food and water doesn't change the fact that what he did was psychologically damaging and traumatic, and considering David still doesn't respect him or trust him or see him as an ally, and still probably wants to kill him? I don't think whatever he was trying to accomplish actually worked.

Considering how messed up our "system" is, I seriously doubt Bourne's going to be punished for what happened - which, for the record, I still think he should be - and if Tim acted without talking to David first, no, I don't think he did the best thing. But I don't think he fucked up. I know Tim. If he didn't tell David, he'll tell him now, and deal with whatever fallout he gets from it, and if David does actually trust and respect him, hopefully he'll listen.

How do you know he doesn't know how David thinks? You said him and Bourne should be reassigned. Do you seriously think bringing this up and letting people know it happened, and that there's potential for it to happen again, is a bad thing?

He said he did it because he was angry. Being angry isn't an excuse for damaging someone you're supposed to be responsible for. We're supposed to be setting an example and trying to help the people we've been assigned to. Acting out of anger and hurting someone who hurt you is just telling David that behavior's acceptable, and an abuse of the power Bourne has over him.

He did it for a few days. No, I don't think it had the effect he intend, but will all due respect, I still don't see it as torture. That kind of shit makes you stronger and builds character.

Don't you get it? If Tim told everyone without David knowing, like I think he did, him telling David now is fuckin' selfish. It's Tim feelin' better about himself without thinking about the fact that this will fuck David up. I know you care about the guy, but in this? In this, he's an asshole.

Yeah, I do think Tim letting everyone know was a bad thing. It won't happen again and Tim bringing it up way after the fact just shows David that he can't fuckin' trust anyone. Tim's not sticking his neck out for the kid by.. I don't know, keeping an eye on Bourne and taking it on himself. He just ratted the situation out to the other wardens so he'd have no responsibility. If he knew what David thought, he'd have dealt with Bourne direct or petitioned for a new warden without just fuckin' ratting him out.

I told you I don't agree with what Bourne did, but I get it. I don't think you can, because you believe yourself above all that shit. You think you'd never bend. The wardens are human too and they aren't all fuckin' vigilantes who were raised for this shit. Bourne was angry, sure. If he wasn't, then maybe he would have done somethin' else, maybe he wouldn't. I'm not going to fuckin' argue shit I can't know.

And you know what? I'm not the one who doesn't get it. Me being a vigilante has nothing to do with all of this. I don't think I'm above everyone else, or that I'm more than human or whatever the hell you're trying to say. I'm not an idiot. I've made mistakes. I've hurt people, I've gotten people killed, I've been put in situations where I've made the wrong decision because I was upset, but instead of whining about it, and getting angry when people call me out on it, I try to accept that it happened and make up for what I did. All I want to do is help people, and the fact that you think I'm just some arrogant asshole who thinks I'm better than everyone else means you don't know me at all.

It has nothing to do with being better or worse than anyone, asshole. You were raised a certain way and he was raised completely differently. That doesn't mean either of you is better or worse, but it means you might not get some of the shit he does.

He's not whining and fuck you for calling it that. Bourne doesn't get why it's a problem and he isn't used to help. In this situation, Tim's a fucking rat.

I have no idea what the hell you want from me, Costigan. I get that your life sucked before you came here, and it's continued to suck, but just because some of us aren't jaded and expect the worst of people doesn't mean what Bourne did was right, and it doesn't mean I'm naive. And if you think that's acceptable behavior for a warden, that's fucked up. It's not acceptable. It's not a "learning experience". It's abusive.
